A final twist reveals the film’s true villain—and offers a layered critique of the systems that bring superheroes to the screen. In particular, we adjust weekly sales figures for the quarter once the total market estimates are published by the Digital Entertainment Group. Figures will therefore fluctuate each week, and totals for individual titles can go up or down as we update our estimates. For example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports sales of 1,500,000 units in total, we will estimate 15,000 units were sold of that title. The consumer spending estimate is based on the average sales price for the title in the retailers we survey. Our DVD and Blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to build a weekly market share estimate for each title we are tracking.
It also made more than the rest of the weekend box office combined, as the total weekend haul was $263 million. In fact, The Lion King made more than the entire box office made last weekend ($126 million) and this weekend last year ($172 million). Needless to say, there was strong growth both week-over-week at 109% and year-over-year at 53%. Granted, 2019 is still well back from 2018’s pace, down 7.1% or $490 million at $6.44 billion compared to $6.93 billion, but at least that gap is down significantly from where it was last week.More... The overall box office was down 38% from last weekend, hitting $162 million. However, this was 4.1% more than the same weekend last year and that’s a much more important result. 2019 is still behind 2018 by a 6.4% or $460 million margin at $6.73 billion to $7.19 billion, but at this point, I will celebrate any victory, no matter how small.More... A former Stark Industries employee and holographic-illusions specialist who masquerades as a superhero from Earth-833 in the multiverse. Gyllenhaal shared ideas with the writers regarding the character's personality, and was drawn to the idea that Beck is "manipulating everyone's love of superheroes and that need for heroes".

Peter Billingsley reprises his Iron Man role of scientist William Ginter Riva, a former employee of Stark Industries who now works with Beck.

Million, accounting for production budgets, marketing, talent participations, and other costs; box office grosses and home media revenues placed it seventh on their list of 2019's "Most Valuable Blockbusters". Tom Holland grows in the role of Peter Parker in a 'Spider-Man' sequel that spins a web of illusion, proving the MCU can fly after the Avengers. Far From Home grossed over $21 million in its third weekend but was dethroned by newcomer The Lion King. S Scott Mendelson felt the trailer showed "the sheer confidence" of Sony in its Spider-Man films, especially after the successes of Homecoming, Venom , and Into the Spider-Verse. The trailer received 130 million views in 24 hours, surpassing Homecoming as the most viewed Sony Pictures trailer in that time period. The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who is now in a situation where he does not have the level of control he is used to having. In Ixtenco, Mexico, Nick Fury and Maria Hill investigate an unnatural storm and encounter the Earth Elemental.
Granted, the movie will still make more than enough money to break even, but it will be yet another profitable disappointment. We’ve had far too many of those and not enough films matching their potential at the box office this year.More... At the end of August 2017, as the film was entering pre-production, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers were in final negotiations to return from Homecoming to write the sequel.
By early August, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders were confirmed to be appearing in the film, reprising their respective roles of Nick Fury and Maria Hill from previous MCU films, and Remy Hii joined the cast later in the month. Filming took place in Prague and Liberec in the Czech Republic in September, and moved to Venice by the end of the month. Filming moved to New York City and Newark, New Jersey in October, where it used the working title Bosco. Locations included areas around Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, and Newark Liberty International Airport.
While on a school trip to Europe, Parker will be drafted by Nick Fury to fight alongside Mysterio against monstrous giants known as The Elementals. From what we know about the film, it will focus heavily on Peter trying to live up to his late mentor Tony Stark. 3 comments"I have this memory of being a kid and wanting so desperately to be treated like an adult," director Jon Watts previously said of Peter's arc in the film. "And then there's one day, suddenly, where everyone does treat you like an adult and you start to think, 'Oh, I liked it better when I was being treated like a kid. Could I go back?' But by the time that happened, you're never allowed to go back."

Feige explained that one of the reasons behind this change in location was because a majority of the sequel would be spent around the world, outside New York City. The key to the new movie’s appeal, apart from the fact that Tom Holland acts with far greater confidence and verve in the title role, is that the entire film is a bit of a fake-out, and I mean that in a very positive way. There’s a good twist, and it’s totally central (I won’t reveal it), but what’s resonant about it is that it enables “Far From Home” to play around with the very issue of what matters in a superhero movie. Toy Story 4 was the top draw, but it fell faster than most family films do, down 51% to $59.70 million. Annabelle Comes Home had the weakest opening in the franchise, while Yesterday did well as counter-programming, but that’s all.
Far From Home, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, tweaks Mysterio to slyly mock the increasing unreality of moviegoers’ favorite superheroes. Indeed, for his climactic battle with Spider-Man in Far From Home, Beck is shown donning the skintight, strangely patterned spandex uniform that any Marvel actor would instantly recognize as a motion-capture suit. In an age of “deepfakes” and untrustworthy news outlets, this Mysterio is an apt villain, a representation of the pervasive anxiety that it’s getting harder and harder to believe what one sees. But I also took the character as a joking prod at Marvel movies themselves, which are assembled through post-production processes so complicated that actors sometimes can barely understand the plot of the movie they’re making. Discussing the film's mid-credits scene, Watts explained that they approached J.K.

Additionally, not only is the film getting off to a faster than expected start, it should have good legs. Granted, its reviews are mixed, but it is a family film and it did earn an A from CinemaScore, so that should help its longevity. Additionally, the next family film is Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which has only about a 50/50 chance of reaching $100 million in total. As for the film’s international numbers, it added $269.4 million in 52 markets to its early international total, which now sits at $346.0 million, while its worldwide total is already $531.0 million. The film didn’t set many records internationally, but it is earning the second-biggest opening weekend in Brazil with $17.9 million and in Russia at $16.7 million.
Principal photography began on location in Hertfordshire, England, on July 2, 2018, under the working title Fall of George. Matthew J. Lloyd served as director of photography, after previously working with Watts on Cop Car . Watts had wanted to work with Lloyd on Homecoming, but the cinematographer was working on Power Rangers at the time.
